So I obviously track the tag “New York City” on tumblr.. anyway, it’s so crazy to see people who are so passionate about living here, saying things like “i will get there!” and this sort of phrase.
It’s weird to me because I grew up around the city. In it, around it.. it’s just always been apparent to me that I’ll live here. And I’ve always been ridiculously passionate about this city, firm in my belief that it trumps anywhere I’ve ever been before in culture, opportunities, diversity, etc… but it was never a challenge, it was just a given that I’d be here. Something I was going to do and didn’t ever doubt. But it’s also weird to me because I think people have this very unrealistic idea of New York like it’s Disney World or something… really, if you can make it here you can make it anywhere, but if you’re anyone.. you can make it here if you wanted to.
I don’t really know my point. It’s just an observation, and I guess the way I look at it differs a lot from the way people who have never been here or live extremely far away from here look at it. Growing up 50 miles from the place I saw as my future home and the greatest place on planet earth has the potential to change my view of it, haha.
Definitely no disrespect to anyone. I love my city and love that people all over the world can see some of the magic that comes out of here.
